Mitt, circa 1983: “Okay kids! Everyone ready for the thrice-annual Romney family vacation?! I know I am! If ANYBODY on Team Romney needs to make a #2, please go ahead and take care of that now- ’cause we’ve got a 12 hour drive up to Ontario and I think we can make it all the way on one tank! Whaddaya say, team?! Romney! Romney! Romney! …Oops, hang on– I almost forgot to secure Seamus’ dog carrier! That would’ve been bad… Okay! Here we go!”

In 1983, Mitt decided to take his family on a vacation to Ontario. How lovely. To save cabin room in the vehicle, Mitt locked his big ol’ Irish Setter, Seamus, in a cage strapped to the roof of his station wagon and drove 12 hours to Ontario (making stops only for gas).

Despite Seamus’s rather visceral protest getting into the cage, and the fact that he shat all over the carrier and down the rear window at some point along the way , Mitt defended his actions, stating that his dog “likes fresh air.”
